Serving Sisters, Oregon

Where Sisters clients actually go

Rock Recovery is an OHA-certified outpatient provider at 1243 SW Highland Ave, Suite C in Redmond. There is no Sisters office. There is a 20-mile drive east on Highway 126 that runs about 25 minutes, and a fair number of the people we work with make it.

Sisters is small enough that specialty care mostly happens somewhere else, and most residents are already used to driving for it. Treatment is the same equation. The difference is that treatment asks for that drive more than once, which is why the schedule and the telehealth option matter as much as the care itself.

We are outpatient only: counseling, groups, education, and support you attend and then go home from. No detox unit, no beds, no prescribing. If your assessment shows you need something we do not offer, we will say so directly and help you find it. We accept the Oregon Health Plan and most private insurance. Call (541) 234-3081 before you commit to anything and ask whatever you need to.

Getting here

Getting here from Sisters.

Highway 126 east out of Sisters drops you into Redmond in about 25 minutes, 20 miles of open high desert. In summer that stretch carries tourist traffic and can run slow; in winter it carries wind and ice and can run slower. We schedule with both in mind, and telehealth exists for the weeks the drive is a bad idea. DUII education and treatment classes meet on weekday evenings so seasonal work and second jobs stay possible.

About 25 minutes, 20 miles

Straight east on Highway 126. Allow extra in July and August when the highway fills up, and extra again in a January storm.

Seasonal work, seasonal income

A lot of Sisters income arrives between May and September and thins out after. If cost is the thing standing in the way, say so on the first call. OHP, private insurance, and private pay are all on the table, and we would rather solve it up front.

Telehealth for a mountain winter

Snow, ice, and a highway that is not always pleasant to drive after dark. Individual counseling works well over video, so a bad-weather week does not have to be a missed week.

What Sisters residents come to us for.

The requests that come up most often from the west side of the county. All outpatient, all OHA certified.

Mental health counseling

Licensed counseling for anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief, with no substance use history required. This is the most common reason people from Sisters call, and much of it works well by telehealth.

Outpatient substance use treatment

State-certified outpatient care at ASAM Level 1. Assessment first, then individual, group, and family counseling at a pace you can hold alongside work.

Early intervention

For drinking or use that is heading somewhere you do not like but is not a diagnosis. A short, honest read on where you actually are, without a label attached to it.

DUII education and treatment

OHA-certified DUII education and treatment with weekday evening classes. After your evaluation, the choice of provider is yours.

Peer support and recovery mentors

Certified mentors who have lived it. In a town of a few thousand where the recovery meeting list is short, an outside person who checks in between appointments makes a real difference.

See the full list on our services page, or read how DUII classes and treatment work if that is what brought you here.

A small town with a short list of options.

Sisters is a place people move to for quiet, and quiet cuts both ways. The population is small, the winters are long, and the town empties out after the summer season ends. Isolation is not a side issue here; for a lot of people it is the whole problem, and it is a well-documented driver of both depression and drinking. The other piece is visibility. In a town this size, walking into a local office is a public act. Driving to Redmond is not. If that privacy is what makes it possible for you to start, that is a perfectly good reason to make the drive.

Most of our clients are covered by the Oregon Health Plan, which covers outpatient treatment at no cost for most members.

Common questions

Sisters questions, answered

Does Rock Recovery have an office in Sisters, Oregon?

No. We have one office, at 1243 SW Highland Ave, Suite C in Redmond, and we serve Sisters residents from there. It is 20 miles east on Highway 126, roughly 25 minutes, and telehealth handles many appointments that do not need to happen in person.

How far is Rock Recovery from Sisters?

About 20 miles. Highway 126 east takes you from Sisters into Redmond in roughly 25 minutes, longer in summer traffic or winter weather. Our address is 1243 SW Highland Ave, Suite C, Redmond, OR 97756, open Monday through Friday, 8am to 7pm.

Can I do counseling from Sisters by telehealth in the winter?

Yes, for most individual counseling. That is exactly the case telehealth is best at: a 40-mile round trip over a highway that can be genuinely unpleasant after dark in January. Some appointments still need to be in person, and we will tell you which at the start.

Do you take the Oregon Health Plan if I live in Sisters?

Yes. We accept OHP, and most OHP members pay nothing out of pocket for outpatient addiction services. Sisters is in Deschutes County, which we serve along with Crook and Jefferson. We also take Medicare and most private insurance. Call (541) 234-3081 and we will help you check.

What if my work is seasonal and my income changes through the year?

Tell us on the first call. That pattern is common on this side of the county and it is not a reason to stay away. Between OHP, private insurance, and private pay arrangements there is usually a path, but it works better if we know up front rather than three sessions in.
