Early intervention · ASAM Level 0.5

Address it early, on your terms

If part of you is wondering whether your drinking or use is becoming a problem, you don't have to wait until it's “bad enough” to get a professional read. Early intervention is a brief, judgment-free way to look at at-risk or early-stage use, before it turns into something harder to undo.

What it is

A professional read, not a life sentence

Early Intervention, ASAM Level 0.5, is care designed for people whose substance use is early-stage or at-risk, but does not yet meet the criteria for a substance use disorder. It's the step before treatment: a chance to look clearly at where things stand and address it while it's still small.

What it isn't matters just as much. This is not a diagnosis, not a label, and not a commitment to long-term treatment. It's a brief, structured read and some honest education, delivered without judgment, so you can make your own decisions with real information instead of worry.

Rock Recovery provides Early Intervention right here in Redmond, serving all of Central Oregon, as a state-certified behavioral health provider.

Is this you?

You don't have to be sure to start

Most people who come to early intervention aren't certain anything is wrong. Any of these sound familiar?

You're wondering if it's a problem

You've started asking yourself whether your drinking or use is more than it should be. That question, on its own, is worth taking seriously, and worth answering with a professional read rather than a guess.

A DUII put your habits in question

One incident forced a hard look at your relationship with alcohol or drugs. If your evaluation pointed you toward education rather than full treatment, this is the right-sized place to do that work.

Someone you trust raised a concern

A partner, a parent, a friend, or your doctor said something. It doesn't mean they're right, but a brief, honest assessment is a fair way to find out, on your terms.

Your use is creeping up

You're still functioning, showing up, doing your job, holding it together, but the amount, or how often, has quietly grown. Early is exactly when a small course correction is easiest to make.

You want to get ahead of it

Nobody made you come. You'd just rather deal with this now, while it's manageable, than wait for it to become something bigger. Getting ahead of it is smart, not weak.

What to expect

What early intervention looks like

Straightforward, brief, and entirely judgment-free from the first conversation to the last.

A brief, structured assessment

We start with a short, professional read of your situation at ASAM Level 0.5. It's organized and evidence-based, not an interrogation, and not a diagnosis.

Honest education about risk

You'll get clear, practical information about where your use sits and where it could head. Real facts, plainly explained, so you can make your own decisions from solid ground.

Short-term counseling, if it helps

When a few focused sessions would be useful, we offer them. This is early counseling meant to keep a small concern small, not a commitment to long-term treatment.

A clear recommendation

At the end you'll know where you stand and what, if anything, we'd suggest next. And if we think you need more than early intervention, we'll say so directly, that's our job.

Nothing here obligates you to anything else. You leave with clarity , and the choice about what comes next stays yours.

On the DUII education track?

Education, not full treatment

When a DUII evaluation shows a lower level of need, it places you in the education track rather than treatment, and that's exactly what early intervention is built for. It's the right-sized way to meet an education requirement and address at-risk use, without being routed into care you don't need.

Common questions

Honest answers, up front

Does this mean I'm an addict?

No, and that's the whole point of early intervention. ASAM Level 0.5 exists for people whose use is at-risk or early-stage but doesn't meet the criteria for a substance use disorder. It's not a diagnosis and it's not a label. It's a chance to look honestly at where things are and to get ahead of a problem before it becomes one.

How long does early intervention take?

It's brief and structured by design, this is not a commitment to long-term treatment. Most people come in for a short, focused read of their situation and some straightforward education, and then decide with us what, if anything, makes sense next. We'll give you a clear picture of the scope up front so there are no surprises.

Will this go on a record? Is it confidential?

Your care here is protected. Substance use records are covered by strict federal confidentiality rules under 42 CFR Part 2, which limit when and how your information can be shared. You can read more on our client rights page. If you have a specific concern about who might see your records, tell us and we'll explain exactly how it works for your situation.

Does OHP cover it?

We accept the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) for outpatient addiction services. Coverage for a given service can vary by plan and situation, so the fastest way to get a real answer is to call us at (541) 234-3081. If you're paying yourself, we offer a sliding scale, we don't want cost to be the reason you put this off.
